The Open Castilla y León Villa de El Espinar will be held at the facilities of the ‘Pedro Muñoz’ Municipal Sports Complex, in its XXXVII edition, from July 24 to 30. The men’s tournament will be a category 100 ATP Challenger and the women’s will be a W25 category ITF. Both events will be held together for the second consecutive year. The facilities have a total of seven tracks, one of them Central, after the expansion that the tournament undertook in last year’s edition.
This edition marks the 20th anniversary of Rafa Nadal’s victory at El Espinar. The man from Manacor took victory in 2003. The list of winners of the event also includes players like Roger Federer, winner in the doubles draw in 1999 or the Spanish: Pablo Carreño (2013); Dani Gimeno Traver (2010); Feliciano Lopez (2009); Fernando Verdasco (2007); Juan Martin del Potro (2006); Juan Ignacio Chela (2001); Sergi Bruguera (2000); Radek Stepanek (1998); Javier Sánchez Vicario (1991); Emilio Sánchez Vicario (1990) or Pepo Clavet, who in 1986 opened the list of winners in a tournament that has an exceptional record of winners.
As usual, the Espinarian tournament will have a very complete out-of-competition program. From this edition, the traditional recognitions that the organization of the Tournament gives to athletes, events and members of the Castilian-Leonese civil society will take the name of Pedro Muñoz, founder of the Open and who died in 2020. The gala will be on Thursday, July 27, during the Official Cocktail of the Open Castilla y León Villa de El Espinar.
