How did we miss that: Summer, sun and the joy of life in 2021 has not only existed in 2021 due to the lousy May weather, but logically has been significantly restricted by Corona since 2020. With the easing, which will come into force in Cologne from Monday (May 31), leisure activities are now also coming back into focus. In keeping with the current situation, the summer cinema starts the new season under the motto “Summer, Sun, Lust and Life”. From Thursday (June 3), film highlights can again be seen in the open air on the XXL screen in the Rheinauhafen. It starts on Thursday with the preview of the French comedy “The Perfume of Life”.

Summer cinema in Cologne starts again: blockbusters and European football championships

“Arthouse has just as much space here as blockbusters and classics from film history,” the organizers say. The live acts before the films, which are popular with visitors, should also be part of the party again.

But the summer cinema is more than just a film set, other events also take place here: Comedy, concerts and other events are on the program. One of the highlights in 2021 is to be the broadcast of European football matches.

New beer garden: Sion summer cinema adds more for visitors

Just in time for the start of the big football event, the summer cinema is also upping the ante in terms of catering: visitors can now enjoy the view over the marina to Cologne Cathedral with a cool Kölsch or a meal from the newly established beer garden.

On the weekend and at least two hours before the show starts, the beer garden is open to all visitors. The on-site offer: Sion Kölsch, burgers, wraps, kumpir, currywurst and snacks.

Summer cinema in Rheinauhafen: The current Corona rules

Admission to the Sion summer cinema takes place daily from 7 p.m. The films start at nightfall, that can be between 8 p.m. and 10 p.m. There is a short break in the middle of the film. Entry costs 9.50 euros.

Of course, the summer cinema is not free from Corona rules either: Admission is only granted to those who meet at least one of the “3G rules”, i.e. who have a full vaccination, a recovery or a negative test. Tickets can be booked online using the seating plan, which is why the seats are firmly allocated (no free choice of seats).

There is no obligation to wear a mask in the cinema or beer garden, but the distance rules (1.50 meters) must be observed. Should anything change in the Corona rules on site, it will be reported on the Homepage of the summer cinema informed. (tw)
