Open-Air Cinema in the Harbor: Two Films Under the Open Sky in August

Attention cinema fans: At the cinema in the harbor, visitors can see two films under the open sky on the first weekend in August in the fishing port.

Lying in a deck chair, drinking a cool drink and watching a film in the open air – this is possible again at the cinema in the harbor of the cultural office. The free open-air event attracts numerous visitors to the fishing port every year. Also this summer, guests should get their money’s worth on August 4th and 5th.

The announcement of the two selected films is eagerly awaited on Friday. But first, Dorothee Starke, head of the cultural department, reveals some news. “Like last year, the cinema in the harbor should always have a motto,” she says. This year’s motto is “Up and away”. “As part of our ‘Journey to the soul of the city’ series of events, we thought that would be a good fit,” says Starke.

“Little Miss Sunshine” – film for the whole family

Then the organizer of the event, Maja Schmonsees, announces the films: On Friday, August 4, “Little Miss Sunshine” will be shown. The 2006 road movie is a mix of comedy and drama and is aimed at the whole family. The film is about seven-year-old Olive, whose biggest dream is to enter a beauty pageant – even if she doesn’t have the perfect model measurements. Together with her weird family, she sets off in an old VW bus.

Young misfits go on adventures

On Saturday, August 5th, visitors can see the film “Tschick”. The work by director Fatih Akin is about two young outsiders, Maik and Tschik, who embark on an adventurous journey in a stolen Lada.

Performances start around 10pm – after sunset. Entry is at 6 p.m. A preliminary program is also planned from 8 p.m. From a donation of three euros, visitors receive coupons that they can redeem in the local catering trade. You can also book a deckchair in advance for EUR 40 per person, including EUR 15 gastro coupons. Alternatively, it is possible to book a beach chair for two people for EUR 100, including EUR 15 gastro coupons per person. Bookings can be made via kulturamt@magistrat.bremerhaven.de.
