The new logo retains the traditional lightning in a circle, which appeared back in the 1930s on Opel Blitz (“Lightning”) trucks. Compared to the current logo, the new graphics are lighter and sleeker: the lightning has become sharper, and the circle, which has become thinner, no longer touches it. Zigzag halves are separate elements with a gap between them.
Lightning in a modern context played as a reference to electric vehicles, but it turns out that the new logo has another meaning.
Opel representatives note that the lightning is stylized as compass needles, and this is now an important symbol for the company. Like, the crosshairs, symbolizing the compass, are key design elements of the front and rear parts of the body, as well as the interior of the new Opel models.
The debut of the first car with the new logo will take place in September at the IAA Mobility Motor Show in Munich.
