Possibly also attractively priced
‘Manta’ is not the only old model name that draws Opel from the past into the present. The Opel Frontera is also coming back! This will no longer be a rugged SUV, but a practical and apparently spacious and electric successor to the Opel Crossland.
Do you remember the Opel model name Frontera? Between 1992 and 2004 you could purchase a three- or five-door SUV with that name in the Netherlands. Although, an Opel … The Frontera, just like the larger Monterey that was sold more or less at the same time as the Frontera, was actually an Isuzu. Where the Opel Monterey was secretly an Opel-the Isuzu Trooper, the Frontera was secretly an Isuzu MU. Just like the model name Manta, the model name Frontera also returns. Opel pulls ‘Frontera’ off the shelves as the replacement for the Crossland.
The new Opel Frontera will be presented later this year and will be a car of a completely different order than the previous Frontera. The new Opel Frontera will be the car with which Opel will replace the Crossland. The new Opel Frontera will be a longer and therefore more spacious alternative to the Mokka. Just like the Mokka, the new Frontera will also be available with electrified or non-electrified combustion engines, although Opel’s attention is mainly focused on the fully electric versions.
We have already shown you the Opel Frontera in test suit a number of times. The overall shape of the Opel Frontera suggests that it will be a technical sister model of the electric SUV brother that Citroën has in the development rooms of the new (ë)-C3. The Citroën will function as the successor to the C3 Aircross and will also have electric powertrains in addition to versions with combustion engines. That will make the Opel Frontera extra interesting, as it is quite possible that it will have a quite attractive price tag, just like the Citroën ë-C3 and the successor to the C3 Aircross. We expect a starting price of under 30 grand.
The Opel Grandland will also get a successor this year. To date, the German car manufacturer speaks of ‘the successor to the Grandland’ and does not call it ‘the new Grandland’. This suggests that even the Grandland successor will soon have a completely different name. Perhaps one from the past. Monterey, perhaps?
