Opel Corsa: The Evolution of Intelli-Lux Headlights for Enhanced Safety

To reduce the chances of accidents, it is a good practice to use a high-quality lighting system. Unfortunately, the most advanced technologies are usually reserved for premium brands. Going against the trend, there is Opel, which has decided to make Matrix LED technology available on the new one Opel Corsa. The evolution of the Intelli-Lux headlights is a rare fact for a car in its segment, but it is through these initiatives that the House of Lightning hopes to obtain good feedback. Whether he succeeds or not will, of course, be determined over time. In the meantime, the system still deserves praise.

No one would have lamented its absence, as automakers tend to avoid it as it is considered expensive. Such sophisticated solutions are usually reserved for the elite of vehicles on the market. The German automaker, however, proves to have a different opinion, as it seeks to achieve success through quality. But how exactly do these headlights work? How were they made? That’s what we’ll be talking about in the next few paragraphs, so take a moment because there’s a lot to talk about!

Opel Corsa: the evolution of the Intelli-Lux headlights is from a premium range model

Among the various assistance systems, the Opel Corsa also features a high-end lighting system. Instead of the traditional Intelli-Lux LED Matrix, the 2023 facelift brought with it 14 LEDs, seven on each side. Without going into technical details, the high beams are activated outside urban centres. An HD front camera monitors the 14 LEDs individually to ensure optimal visibility of the road. In other words, the risks of accidents are reduced, often caused by the difficulty in identifying potential dangers along the route.

The light beam automatically and continuously adapts to traffic and the surrounding environment, avoiding causing inconvenience to cars preceding or crossing it. The headlights are standard in the Ultimate trim, the top of the range, while for the GS version it is necessary to purchase the Tech Pack GS for 750 euros.

In a recent interview, the company’s top executive, Florian Huettl, made interesting statements about electric mobility. Future zero-emission models will start from 25 thousand euros. Production expenses will be reduced thanks to the technology brought back to Europe, particularly at the Gigafactory in Kaiserslautern. The highly competitive price will allow Opel to compete with more accessible battery-powered offerings, including Chinese rivals.
