Compact station wagons are usually not the choice when it comes to tuning show cars. XS Carnight proves that an Opel Astra Sports Tourer GSe can also be made ready for the big performance.

Lowered cars are like shallow jokes: they’re cool among like-minded people and, at best, you get recognition for your own taste. But in everyday life? People like to scratch the curb or the nerves of their fellow citizens. Example: Why are Opel drivers jealous of the Titanic? Answer: Because it is 3800 m lower. And this is where the Opel Astra Sports Tourer GSe with tuning from XS Carnight comes into play. When it comes to the chassis, the GSe already benefits from a ten millimeter lower chassis as standard. Of course, that wasn’t enough for tuning: the air suspension from Grinds forced the tires and wheel arches into the lowest setting. In fact, only the Titanic is deeper.

When he returned, the Opel Astra Sports Tourer GSe was definitely no longer the good part-time athlete next door. The matt black vehicle exudes a touch of modern cafe racer with its occasional stickers, the yellow bumper creates a bright contrast. The black 20-inch models from Rotiform further reinforce the dark airride look. What is interesting in this context is the decision not to clean away or paint the silver roof rails, which break up the shadowy look of the Opel Astra Sports Tourer GSe. A lot would certainly have been possible when it came to the roof edge spoiler and diffuser.

The courage of those responsible apparently wasn’t enough for an exhaust system whose pipes could have visibly protruded from the bumper. The lack of a body kit, however, is hardly noticeable. The Rüsselsheimer’s already well-defined fenders are completely sufficient for the sturdy look. The same applies to the drive: the 1.6 l four-cylinder remains unchanged, as does the supporting electric motor, so that 225 hp system output (165 kW) and 360 Nm are still available under the accelerator foot. And while other plug-in hybrids run out of breath at just over 200 km/h, the Opel runs at least 235 km/h. The individual piece is not available for purchase. If you want a comparably lowered example, you have to factor in the air suspension for a good 2000 euros in addition to the new price of 48,760 euros.
