The Secretary General-elect of the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC), Haitham Al Ghais, recognized the victory of President Nicolás Maduro in the elections held last Sunday, July 28.

After being informed by OPEC, the re-elected president of Venezuela thanked the international community for its support and backing of his victory, amid calls for violence from the right wing that refuses to recognize the legitimate election results.

“I thank OPEC Secretary General Haitham Al Ghais for his sincere congratulations, which is a recognition of the sacred will of the Venezuelan people, expressed through voting last Sunday #28Jul. We will continue to strengthen joint work to advance towards energy stability, for the benefit of the people. Venezuela’s doors are open, you will be very well received. A hug!” Maduro said in his response through “X”.

It is worth noting that Haitham Al Ghais highlighted the work of Nicolás Maduro as president of Venezuela, a member country of OPEC, and hinted that he will soon visit the South American country.

It is worth noting that Venezuela maintains its cooperation with OPEC in order to strengthen the international energy balance. In this regard, the OPEC Secretary highlighted the leadership of the Venezuelan president in the affairs of the Organization. “We appreciate the valuable and continued support of His Excellency, President Maduro, to OPEC and the world oil market.”
