The editors of talk show Op1 has sent an angry letter to NPO chairman Frederieke Leeflang. A spokesperson for the NPO confirmed this. The editors had to go to the website on Wednesday evening AD read that the program will end after next summer. The talk show makes way for Khalid & Sophie.

From the letter, which is also on the website of the AD it turns out that the editors are furious about the turn of events. They feel offended. According to the letter writers, it is not the first time that “the makers of this program have felt treated in such an unfair, uninformed way.” “For the umpteenth time” there was no proper communication. “Broadcasters, colleagues, presenters disappeared and even then we were allowed to get the majority of those announcements from the newspaper instead of from our personal inboxes.”

Pluriformity

The NPO is aware of the letter, but cannot share its contents. A spokesperson says it is right that the editors express their concerns and further says that the NPO itself was also surprised by the leaking of the news. “The employees should have heard this from their employer and not through the media.”

The NPO says that an appointment has now been made with the editors to answer questions and to explain the conversations that have been had with the broadcasters.

In a press release on the website the NPO explains the discontinuation of Op1 and the choice for completely new programming. “It goes without saying that the NPO will ensure that the pluriform journalistic programming in our offering will continue to come into its own from next autumn. The NPO wants to broaden this offering from autumn 2024, of course renew it, keep it pluriform and contemporary. That is why we are working with all broadcasters in conversation to renew journalistic and current programming to keep in touch with today’s world.”

‘Unprofessional approach’

Sven Kockelmann and Fidan Ekiz presented the broadcast yesterday Op1. Kockelmann pointed out the fuss at the beginning of the broadcast by opening the show with it. “Welcome to everyone at the table on this somewhat difficult day for us. Especially for all employees of our program, who had to hear from the newspaper last night that the curtain is closing on this program.”

State Secretary Van Weyenberg said before the start of the Council of Ministers that it was very painful to have to read this in the newspaper. “I think that is a mistake. I believe that the NPO now also admits that and that seems very right to me.”
