After the Japanese in large numbers left Indonesia and ‘returned home’, now it also happens to citizens China. Since 1-23 July 2021, at least 2,056 Chinese citizens have left Indonesia and decided to return home.
This information was obtained from the Class I Immigration Data for the Soekarno-Hatta Airport Immigration Checkpoints (TPI). Even so, the reason for their departure is not known for certain
“We don’t know the reason for our departure,” said Sam Fernando, Head of Immigration Tikim at Soekarno-Hatta Airport CNBCIndonesia, Tuesday (27/7/2021).
Previously, it was also known that as many as 2,387 Japanese citizens had left Indonesia. Then followed by South Korea as many as 1,537 people, the United States 1,280 people, France 794 people, England 664 people, Russia 644 people, Germany 563 people, Netherlands 475 people, Saudi Arabia 455 people and India 449 people.
There are also some citizens of Southeast Asian countries. It was recorded that 353 Filipinos had left Indonesia, followed by Thailand with 207, Malaysia with 295 and Singapore with 112.
So far, there has been no official announcement from China asking its citizens to leave Indonesia. This is different from a number of Japanese companies or the government of Saudi Arabia which specifically asked their citizens to leave Indonesia immediately.
Not without reason, this phenomenon occurs because of concerns about COVID-19 cases. Along with the emergence of the highly contagious Delta variant, plus full medical facilities and lack of oxygen in hospitals.
Indonesia itself is listed as the 4th country with the most corona cases in Asia. According to Worldometers data as of Tuesday, Indonesia has a total of more than 3.1 million cases of infection and more than 84,000 deaths.
