Ontario education worker ratification vote begins

The Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) said the four-year contract nets $1 per hour per year, or about 3.59 percent more per year for the average worker.

However, the chairman of the Ontario School Board of Unions SCFP extensionLaura Walton admits she’s disappointed with the tentative deal, because it doesn’t contain the additional investment she’s asked for in hiring more early childhood educators, janitors and librarians.

The ratification vote is expected to continue until December 5.

The SCFP extension he said the results of the vote would be announced the next day, 6 December.

If union members reject the deal, the parties could return to the negotiating table and the SCFP extension it could then give another strike notice.
