On the 80th anniversary of Sophie Scholl’s execution, Jan Böhmermann asks his community what Jana from Kassel is doing today. The answers have it all.
On February 22, 1943, the siblings Hans and Sophie Scholl were executed by the resistance group Weisse Rose in Munich. Just in time for her 80th anniversary, the podcaster and moderator Jan Böhmermann posted the question on Twitter: “What is Jana from Kassel doing today?” His community has a number of ideas.
Commemoration of Sophie Scholl: Jan Böhmermann asks about “Jana from Kassel”
With his tweet, Jan Böhmermann alludes to the young woman who gave a speech at a lateral thinker demo in November 2020 in Hanover about feeling like Sophie Scholl. She is also very young and is committed to the resistance – the resistance to corona measures. Many people reacted to “Jana from Kassel” at the time with ridicule and scorn.
No wonder, since Sophie Scholl was executed for her resistance. After her and her brother, four other members of the White Rose and other helpers followed until 1945. The activists called for the fall of the Nazi regime and distributed six anti-Nazi leaflets in southern Germany.
The resistance fighters are celebrated today for their bravery and courage. Schools, squares and streets were named after the Scholl siblings. However, “no school will be named after “Jana from Kassel”. Not even a tree nursery,” the people on Twitter agree. Here are twelve reactions to Böhmermann’s tweet that have it all.
1. “Wasn’t she executed 80 years ago today?” joked one user on February 22.
2. What could that possibly be…?
3. In any case, she will not be beheaded, writes this person.
4. “She probably feels like Anne Frank.”
5. Valid question…
6. “Didn’t she want to train as an alternative practitioner for psychotherapy?”
7. „Onlyfans“
8. “She goes to the Wagenknecht peace demonstration”
9. Is close…
10. A school is certainly not named after her.
11. Some trust Jana from Kassel to have “caught herself again”.
12. Others criticize that she is mentioned at all on Sophie Scholl’s memorial day.
