This is the case recently, according to the ESET Research Laboratory. It is a cybersecurity company that identified a phishing campaign. This one tries Obtain Facebook account login credentials.

How does this scam work?

The user receives a message from a contact asking to “like” a photo “for a good cause”. This includes a URL that when you click takes you to a fake Facebook web page that asks to log in again. That is the gateway to the cybercriminal.

The most common recommendations in these cases is to avoid opening untrustworthy web addresses. That page asks you to log in again is or should turn on your alarms, so you must be careful, because Facebook does not usually proceed in that way to like an image or a video within its platform; less if you are already in your account.

It is also not advisable to open links that come from someone else’s conversation, where you do not know the user who contacted you. It is another of the measures that must be taken to avoid data theft.
