German media reports that the electric small car Smart ForTwo will be available to order only until the end of April 2023. Due to high demand, the production of the car will continue until the summer of 2024.
At one time, Smart was a completely German product, but since 2019, 50 percent of the shares belong to Daimler, and the other 50 to the Chinese concern Geely. This year, the next change follows – the manufacturer officially announces the end of accepting orders for the purchase of the Smart Fortwo, which also marks the end of production in Europe.
Due to high demand, production of the Smart Fortwo in Hambach, France will continue until the summer of 2024, but in the future all brand products will be of Chinese origin.
Let us remind you that at the beginning of 2022, Smart removed the Forfour produced together with Renault from the assembly line, but at the end of 2022, the production of crossover #1 began at Geely’s Chinese factory.
The plant in Hambach was already sold to Ineos Automotive in 2021 and now serves as the production site for the Grenadier off-road vehicle. At the same time, production of the Smart Fortwo continues there.
