The checks on CO₂ meters are currently carried out by two government bodies. In the catering industry, the Federal Public Service (FPS) monitors Public Health, in fitness businesses that responsibility lies with the FPS Economy. The latter would only check if there are actual complaints.
Minister for Economy Pierre-Yves Dermagne (PS) acknowledges the problem: “There were indeed only two checks, but since the last consultation committee, the focus has been completely on ventilation. We will increase the checks in that area and will do so proactively , not just after complaints.”
