“Only the Sun is older than Macedonia” is the title of the first episode of a documentary series for North Macedonia, created by the production house “Ariston” for “Sun” TV.
The documentary series is called “Magical Macedonia” and the first episode introduces the viewers to the “history” of the country against the background of beautiful views of the Macedonian nature.

“The Sun alone is older than Macedonia and therefore it is no coincidence that it is its symbol from the glorious ancient times to the present day,” the narration begins, as the video shows the old Macedonian flag with the Star of Vergina, which is banned under the Prespa agreement with Greece.
The story then continues with Philip and Alexander of Macedon who “built the empire” under the symbol of the Sun, which “thousands of years later still shines in the hearts of the Macedonians”.
According to the authors of the series, the territory of North Macedonia is “blessed and has the potential not only to prosper, but also to expand.”
Although ancient Macedonia was located in present-day northern Greece and part of southern Bulgaria, the narrative in the series directly links Alexander the Great’s empire to northern Macedonia, calling modern Macedonians “descendants of Philip and Alexander”.

The authors further declare that “Macedonia is the cradle of Christianity in Europe” and the “Slavic script”, the country of “the first European university”, where “the Proto-Renaissance began” and from which “literacy and culture spread throughout the world”.
The series invites visitors to North Macedonia to “stand in front of the fresco that started the Renaissance” without showing the fresco in question.
“The oldest of the ancient objects found in Macedonia is not coincidentally named after the first man from the Bible – Adam or Adam of Macedonia,” declares the female voice narrating the story, referring to a Neolithic clay statuette found in the Skopje area.
The voice then announces that “Macedonia is home to the oldest observatory in Europe”, that “Lake Ohrid is 4 million years old” and that one of the “oldest paleolithic settlements in the world, inhabited for tens of thousands of years” has been discovered in Macedonia BC”.
At first glance, the series looks like a tourist advertisement, but the details of the narrative and the fact that the story is told in Macedonian indicate that it was intended more for domestic use in North Macedonia.
