Suddenly the name ‘American Donut’ was sought after by many people, because these donuts were only sold once a year at PRJ. At first glance, the appearance of this donut may not be any different from other donuts, in fact the topping is fairly classic and old school. The name of Djakarta Fair has now changed to PRJ. But American Donuts have remained a favorite snack for more than 50 years.
“We’ve been selling it since 1968, indeed we only sell donuts during PRJ. The rest can order online, but we have to wait in line because the quota is limited,” explained one American Donut employee to detikFood (24/06), who was busy putting in donuts ordered by visitors. .
Judging from the existing history. American Donut was the first donut to develop the donut industry in Indonesia, which at that time was not very well known.

The name ‘America’ itself is taken from the automatic donut fryer that was sent directly from America. At that time in Jakarta, there were no foreign donut brands or other foreign donut franchises that mushroomed like now.
No wonder the name American Donut became a pioneer in selling donuts with the first automatic machine in Indonesia.
The texture of the donuts is also different from contemporary donuts. The donut dough is dense and not hollow, making people full even though they eat one donut. Not to mention the taste of the donuts which are not too sweet, but there is still a trace of savory taste in every bite.

“The hallmark of American Donuts is the same as other donuts. We have a solid texture, that’s why we call it Cake Donuts on the menu. Because it’s not as soft as modern donuts,” continued the American Donut employee.
Besides selling Cake Donuts, hundreds of other PRJ visitors invaded. American Donut also sells other pastry menus. Such as Bronat or Brownies Donuts, Waffle Sticks, to Muffins. All prices hit an average of Rp. 10 thousand per fruit.
They also sell Orange Juice and cold Milo for Rp. 15,000 for donuts.

No need to worry about running out. Even though these donut buyers come and go, the staff at American Donut always make donuts every hour so that the stock doesn’t run out and is still warm. Every day they can sell more than 500 donuts of various flavors.
“You can take them out of town. We don’t use any preservatives, so they only last 1-2 days at room temperature. It’s best not to store them in the refrigerator because they will have a hard texture, so it’s better to store them at room temperature,” concluded the employee there.
Every day outlets American Donat at PRJ open according to PRJ time. For weekdays, they are open from 4pm to 10pm. While on weekends they are open from 10 am to 10 pm.
