There will only be one MLS team in the Concacaf Champions League semi-finals this season. After the Philadelphia Union qualified on Tuesday at the expense of Atlanta United (3-0, 1-1), Columbus and Portland both fell in Mexico, respectively against Monterrey (0-3, 2-2 in the first leg ) and Club America (1-3, 1-1 on the first leg).

The semi-finals will therefore oppose Cruz Azul to Monterrey and Philadelphia to Club America, seven times winner of the event (a record). Between them, the Mexican clubs still in the running weigh 17 Concacaf Champions Leagues. The MLS has not triumphed since 2000 and the coronation of the Los Angeles Galaxy.
