The extraordinary call to the presidential summit of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (Celac), by Honduras and at the request of Mexico, was held ‘behind closed doors’.
The meeting was virtual and only the initial words of the heads of state were transmitted.
There are 33 member nations, only ten leaders participated – including the two conveners:
- St. Vincent and the Grenadines
Brazil and Nicaragua also sent messages. The Brazilian president, Lula da Silva, did it on video and President Daniel Ortega through a text.
The general line of the speeches was “rejection” and condemnation of the police assault on the Mexican Embassy in Quito and support and solidarity with the Mexican president, Andrés Manuel López Obrador (AMLO), and his country, he specified. First fruits.
