New Delhi: The court held that only the main accused is guilty in the Hathras gang-rape-murder case that shook the country. The court acquitted the three accused in the case. SC/ST in Uttar Pradesh The special court gave the judgment in the case on Thursday.
In the 2020 Hathras case, the court found only Sandeep Thakur, the main accused, guilty. Only the crime of culpable homicide could be proved against him in the court. The other accused in the case are Ravi, Lavkusha and Ramu who were acquitted. Ramu is Sandeep’s cousin and others are Sandeep’s friends.
Meanwhile, the girl’s family responded that they were not satisfied with the court verdict. The family responded that they will appeal against the verdict in the High Court.
In September 2020, the Hathras gang-rape that shook the country took place. A 19-year-old Dalit girl was gang-raped and brutally assaulted by four upper caste men. The seriously injured girl died two weeks later while undergoing treatment in Delhi.
After the girl’s death, the country witnessed massive protests.
