“Only losers in this case”

Hendrik Pasveer (52) has been wearing the mascot suit sc Heerenveen Heero for years, but has been suspended due to a conflict with the club’s management. He took the club to court and won the case on Wednesday. Pasveer will therefore be able to return to work soon at the Abe Lenstra stadium.

Since February 2021, Pasveer, 52, has been at odds with Heerenveen. He has been working there for 26 years: as a volunteer, as a house painter and since 2000 also as a mascot Heero, a blond and always smiling Viking.

According to him, the source of the quarrel was the application of the crown policy of the Frisian club. “It arose with the whole crown situation,” Pasveer looks back at Langs de Lijn En Omteken. “I was not vaccinated and was denied access to the stadium, but one of the directors let in his friends who also didn’t have a QR code.”

Pasveer hated him. He got into a conflict about it. “I won’t let anyone ride on me. Everyone has to follow the rules.”

‘Stubborn’

Heerenveen eventually stopped Pasveer’s work. According to the club management, an impractical situation had arisen and Pasveer had threatened people within the club.

Pasveer himself – “a hard-headed Friesian” – took offense and didn’t let it go. “You feel like a sidelined criminal. The things I said were taken out of context to get rid of me.”

A trip to court followed. He thought Pasveer was right. Heerenveen has four weeks to think about how to offer him a place in the organization again, says Pasveer. Otherwise, he will follow the payment of a penalty for each missed working day.

After the verdict he felt a moment of euphoria, but in the end the situation hurt especially Pasveer. “Now you get some recognition, but in this case there are really only losers. In my opinion it could have been solved with a few cups of coffee.”

The son can break through

That Pasveer is so disappointed with the whole issue is also due to the fact that his son is close to a breakthrough in Heerenveen’s first team. “My dream was to take the field with the Abe Lenstra with him. And then you will be evicted in no time at all.”

It is unclear whether Pasveer’s wish will ever be fulfilled. Heerenveen accepted the judge’s ruling, but left open whether Pasveer could again serve as a mascot.

For now, he is mostly happy to have won the case. Despite everything, Pasveer will soon return to Heerenveen, perhaps even as Heero. “But I have to make sense.”
