A Lüner landed his car in a field in Unna. So now he’s on trial. Whether he had drunk too much water before or after the accident played an important role.
There is no doubt about it: the case of Lüner, who landed his car in the middle of a field in Unna and had previously apparently had a deep drink, has now ended with a conviction. The judge was convinced that the 50-year-old had not only picked up the bottle at the scene of the accident.
The man from Lünen had more than two blood alcohol levels in his blood when he and his car were discovered in the field near the Hemmer Landwehr at the end of May. He then protested in the trial before the Unna District Court that he only drank copious amounts of Jägermeister when he was stuck in the field.
The court heard several witnesses, but none of them had seen a corresponding bottle on site. On the third day of the hearing, the expert opinion was available on the question of whether Lüner’s statement on alcohol levels and accompanying substances in his blood could match.
However, the result was not in his favour. Rather, it turned out that it could not have been Jägermeister and that there must have been a longer period of time between the alcohol intake and the examination.
The Lüner nevertheless stuck to his version. However, he could not convince the judge. The 50-year-old was sentenced to a fine of 1,200 euros and an eight-month ban on being granted a driving license for negligent drunk driving.
