Only Bulgarian citizens can decide whether to vote or not – 2024-10-05 07:02:36

/ world today news/ Neither the parliament, nor the government, nor the president can raise the question of whether Bulgarian citizens are obliged to vote.

Already those in the BSP who had doubts or objections say that they are leftists and support the party’s leftist course.

“What is happening around the Electoral Code is because the rulers want to separate the referendum from the upcoming elections. That’s why the topic of mandatory voting was introduced, in order to reduce interest in the referendum itself.” This was stated by the Deputy Chairman of the National Assembly of the BSP Yanaki Stoilov on the air of “This Morning” on bTV.

Regarding mandatory voting, he was adamant that it was unacceptable for anyone other than the Bulgarian citizens themselves to oblige them to vote. “Only Bulgarian citizens can raise the question of whether they are obliged to exercise their electoral rights. Neither the parliament, nor the government, nor the president can do this. The logic was that they should first decide on the referendum, and then the parliament should consider whether it is admissible”, said the socialist.

Stoilov expressed the opinion that with the attempt of the rulers to put the column, with which to vote against all parties, the aim is to further turn the people against the politicians. He clarified: “The discontent should not be directed at other parties, but this vote should be counted and then redistributed among the leading parties. Unfortunately, some of the small parties voted in support of what they were promised – that these votes should not be counted, so as not to raise the minimum permissible threshold at which they would drop out”.

In his words, the “amendments of amendments” to the Electoral Code, instead of solving the problems that would strengthen statehood and protect the rights of citizens, try to model the process in view of the immediate interests of the parties involved.

In the last year and a half, political and organizational changes began in the BSP

The Vice-Chairman of the Left expressed a position that even people who previously had doubts or objections about the policy pursued by the BSP – say that they are left-wing and support the left-wing course.

He was adamant that the change in the BSP has begun. “Over the past year and a half, political and organizational changes have begun. However, on the one hand, the party has ideas and politics, and on the other, there are schemes and deals. Here the question arises as to what will prevail”, explained Yanaki Stoilov.

According to him, in addition to the promises for the future, the political and professional biography of the individual candidates for party posts should be seen. “Our flag should not say I, but we – BSP, struggle, social justice, progress and we must win,” said the socialist.

“If it successfully completes its congress, the BSP will have good chances in the presidential elections,” Yanaki Stoilov concluded.
