Promoted Sportunion z+p St. Pölten lost its first home game in the powerfusion VL Men against SK Zadruga Aich/Dob.
The ÖVV Cup winner won 3-0 (25:14, 25:20, 25:17) in the VS Kilb sports hall. Like Aich/Dob, UVC Holding Graz also has five points after two games. The Murstadt team beat the Kelag Wörther-See-Löwen Klagenfurt 3-0 (25:18, 25:14, 25:21). TJ Sokol V/Post SV Vienna lost 1:3 (25:19, 21:25, 18:25, 18:25) in a duel with UVC McDonald’s Ried.
The Innviertel team leads the table together with defending champions HYPO TIROL volleyball team. Later in the evening, the Innsbruck team defeated Union Raiffeisen Waldviertel 3:1 (25:16, 23:25, 25:17, 25:22). Already on Friday, runner-up TSV Raiffeisen Hartberg beat the newly formed VCA Amstetten NÖ team in the Johann-Pölz-Halle 3:2 (23:25, 25:23, 25:20, 21:25, 15:13) and also has two Victories on account.
St. Pölten will play its first home games of the season in Kilb, as the Lower Austria sports center is not yet available again due to the floods in September. The Panthers had nothing to gain against Aich/Dob. Top scorer Noel Krassnig (11 points) for the Carinthians and Georg Köstler (9) for St. Pölten. “A clean performance, we were clearly the better team. What is bitter, however, is that Sebastian Sablatnig suffered an ankle injury in the first set. He will definitely be out for the CEV Cup second leg in Lausanne next Wednesday,” reported Aich/Dob sports director Martin Micheu.
Graz wins in Klagenfurt
Graz dominated the Wörther-See-Löwen without Benedikt Sablatnig (injured) and Johannes Kratz (stricken). The Murstadters’ best scorers were 19-year-old Nils Arvay and Ulve Steidl (13 each). At Klagenfurt, Noah Neunhoeffer scored seven points. “Graz presented itself very well, served well and hardly made any mistakes. It wasn’t a good performance from us, we’re still looking for form. The fact that Elias Holzinger and Erik Kolev (sick, note) were missing should not be an excuse. We have to get better,” said WSL sports director Karin Frühbauer, disappointed.
Ried gets the next three points
The Rieders took their good form from the opening game against Amstetten with them to the federal capital. After losing the first set, they had Sokol under control. Florian Weikert, captain of the Vienna team: “It’s annoying that we’ve given away a lead again. We started the game really well, but then we lost control. Now it’s time to regenerate quickly and focus on the cup.”
HYPO TIROL continues its successful run
The last game of the evening started a little late and ended with a favorite win. Defending champion HYPO TIROL achieved its eighth success in its eighth game of the season across all competitions. Head coach Lorenzo Tubertini’s team set the tone in the first set against Union Waldviertel in Zwettl, then lost the thread a bit and had to accept the equalizer. The champion quickly got back on track and confidently won rounds three and four. “It’s always difficult in Zwettl. Our service performance decreased in the second set, but then we were consistent again,” explained HYPO TIROL sports director Stefan Chrtiansky. URW newcomer Niklas Etlinger (11 points), under contract with the champions last season: “We showed a good team performance. HYPO TIROL was superior, especially on the blocks.” HYPO TIROL’s top scorer was Arthur Nath (19) and for the Northmen, Zachary Palankai-Omoshebi (15).
URW is playing in the top cup game at Sokol
Ten games in the first round of the cup will take place on Sunday. The top game is the duel between Sokol and Union Waldviertel. Already in the round of 16: PSVBG Salzburg and HYPO TIROL or, thanks to a bye, defending champions Aich/Dob, St. Pölten, Kelag Wörther-See-Löwen and Amstetten.

TI-volley and STEEVOLLEYS score three points, Graz wins in the tie-break
The UNIONvolleys Bisamberg-Hollabrunn narrowly missed a surprise in the second AVL Women round and had to beat UVC Holding Graz 2:3 (26:28, 25:17, 25:23, 23:25, 13:15) on Saturday give. Champion TI-axess-volley won after a set deficit against PSBVG Salzburg 3:1 (22:25, 25:18, 25:17, 26:24). It was the first AVL game of the season for the Innsbruck women, as they were in action at the MEVZA Supercup premiere in Maribor last week. Oberbank STEELVOLLEYS Linz and TSV Sparkasse Hartberg also started the regular season on Saturday. The duel ended with a 3-0 (25:19, 25:22, 31:29) home win.
The UNIONvolleys showed a strong performance in Korneuburg against the favorites from Graz, but were unable to reward themselves with a win. “It’s a shame, but we improved significantly compared to the opening game in Klagenfurt and had a lot of power in attack,” summed up middle blocker Lisa Weindl. Coach Tobias Micheli added: “Three points would have been entirely possible. Ultimately, we lacked cool-headedness in the crucial phases. But I’m very happy with the way the team acted.” The 16-year-old Sasha Shkarupa (UNIONvolleys) and the experienced Ursula Ehrhart (Graz) were the outstanding players with 29 points each.
TI volley with difficulty
TI-volley started the mission to “defend its title” against the PSVBG women, giving up the first set after a 17:14 lead. At 3:6 in the second half, the Innsbruck women took command and got better and better. However, they had problems closing the bag and missed three match points in a row. “Salzburg was a tough nut to crack. Suddenly nothing worked in the first sentence. Then things got better again. The most important thing is that we scored three points in a very well-attended USI hall – there were around 400 fans there,” said TI volley chairman Michael Falkner. Rozalia Hnatyszyn contributed 17 points to the success. PSVBG’s top attacker was Anastasiia Tyshchenko (19).
STEELVOLLEYS without losing a set
The STEELVOLLEYS dominated against Hartberg for two sets. In the third round, sand got into the gears. The Styrians led by up to five points, but gave up the lead. The hot phase was not for the faint of heart: First the STEELVOLLEYS missed three match points, then Hartberg missed four set points. Ultimately, the favorite got three points.
Already on Friday, the Kelag Wildcats Klagenfurt beat the Erzbergmadln Trofaiach Eisenerz 3:2 (23:25, 25:17, 25:19, 19:25, 15:8).
