Only 28% of children between the ages of three and five have the complete schedule of vaccines against covid-19

The ICBF launched a series of campaigns to promote vaccination against covid-19 among children

This March 3, the Icbf warned about the delay in vaccination against covid-19 in children between three and five years old, missing the 70% of minors for completing the immunization schedule.

The director of the ICBF, Lina María Arbeláez, maintained that only 28% of this population of minors has managed to complete the vaccination scheme, some 214,000 minors who are already vaccinated.

The official believes that the fear of needles and the distrust of parents to go to the vaccination posts have been a problem when it comes to improving vaccination figures in Colombia.

It is important to remember that the vaccines that have been authorized for children between the ages of three and eleven are those that have been tested by INVIMA and that they have all the processes carried out by the Ministry of Health to guarantee that it is a vaccine for children.

In order to improve these figures, Icbef launched a series of campaigns throughout the country to promote covid-19 vaccination for children.

“We are making an alliance between the ICBF, the Ministries of Health and Education, the municipal and departmental Health Secretariats, to ensure that all boys and girls between the ages of three and eleven are vaccinated”Held

He also said, “our goal is to reach 941,000 vaccinated”, he also took advantage of the well-being day held in the Parque de Los Ríos in Medellín, which was attended by more than 1000 boys, girls and their families, to make a call to the fathers and mothers to protect their children.

Guaranteeing the vaccination of boys and girls is not only guaranteeing the return to the presence of early childhood in child development centers, children’s homes, kindergartens, but also the opportunity for mothers and fathers to go out again to the labor market and are reactivated in the employability scheme that we so much need for the economic reactivation of the country.

Finally, Lina Arbeláez highlighted the commitment of parents and health authorities in Antioquia, whose vaccination is above the national level, reaching 66% of the 92,000 girls and boys who use Early Childhood in the department.
