JawaPos.com – People living with HIV/AIDS in East Java are still popping up. During this year, until last October, there were 6,145 new infected people.
When accumulated, a total of 84,959 residents were exposed to the virus that attacks the immune system. However, not all HIV/AIDS patients have been cured so far.
Of all the detected cases, there are 23,230 patients who are currently receiving ARV therapy. Or, about 27.3%. For this reason, the provincial government has undertaken a number of efforts to address this problem.
The head of East Java Health Service (Dinkes), Dr. Erwin Astha Triyono, did not deny that there was still a discrepancy between the number of patients found and the number of patients who had received ARVs. “That’s because some patients drop out of treatment or have died,” he said.
To overcome this problem, Erwin said, the provincial government has increased the number of ARV therapy services. From the previous 380 service units in 2021, it has currently increased to 420 services (as of September).
The provincial government also maximizes detection of the spread of HIV/AIDS. One of them is to increase the number of HIV testing service units in health centers and hospitals across East Java. That is, from 1,178 service units to 1,380 service units.
In addition, the provincial government is implementing other detection strategies. How checks on pregnant women who are vulnerable to exposure to HIV. “And, of course, we also invite the community to play a role,” she said.
