Darmstadt – SV Darmstadt 98 continues to sag in the fight for promotion to the 2nd Bundesliga.
Coach Torsten Lieberknecht’s team, who returned to the bench after surviving the corona quarantine, couldn’t get past a 1-1 (1-0) draw against Hansa Rostock. In front of 7500 spectators at Böllenfalltor, veteran Tobias Kempe (24th minute) scored for the lilies. The Ukrainian winter signing Danylo Sikan equalized for the guests (65th).
Nevertheless, the team from the Baltic Sea is still in the relegation battle. Darmstadt improved to third place after 23 games as rivals FC St. Pauli blundered against Hannover 96. After the 0:5 swatter against Hamburger SV and the 2:2 at Hannover 96, Lilien, who were superior this time, missed a sense of achievement.
Lieberknecht left his unsuccessful goalscorers Phillip Tietz and Luca Pfeiffer (both twelve goals of the season) on the bench until the 73rd minute. Veteran Kempe used a ball loss by Ryan Malone to make it 1-0. After the break, the Rostockers fought back against the defeat, but had little to offer in terms of play. The equalizer therefore came as a surprise when substitute Sikan pushed in from close range after a corner.
