Only 1/3 of crimes are detected by the Ministry of Internal Affairs

Only 1/3 of all registered crimes are solved. This is indicated by the statistics of the Ministry of the Interior. Only last December slightly better results were reported – over 41%. Disclosure levels have been this way for years, regardless of who is in power and how much the Home Secretary brags about the police doing a good job.

The most popular

The most widespread crimes in our country remain theft. 1500-2000 are registered monthly. Discoverability hovers around 30%. In some months the levels are lower. Last August, for example, 1,846 crimes were registered. 448 or 24.3% were discovered. The most numerous thefts were in May last year – 1860. In this month, the detection rate was just over 31% or 591 crimes.

Full statistics for 2022 not yet uploaded to the police website. However, according to this year 2021, the police managed to solve more than half of all crimes committed.

From the data for the month of January of this year, it is clear that there is a slight increase in the number of thefts – almost 2000. However, there is also a slight increase in detection rate – 37.6%.

Violence at home

Against the background of increasing cases of domestic violence, the police report poor results in the investigation of these crimes. Statistics for last January indicate that 62 cases were registered. 15 or just over 24% have been revealed. The number of assaults continued to rise to reach 111 in August. Then the detection rate is similar – 24% or 27 crimes.

100% success rate

The crimes where the police can boast a 100% success rate are murders. By tradition, almost all but the custom ones are revealed. In four of the twelve months of last year, a lower success rate was reported in the investigation of these crimes, but still the results are good against the background of the general statistics – detection rate of 70-80%.

Driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs also has high crime detection rates.

Don’t get your car stolen

However, in the case of car thefts, the situation is tragic. Last January, for example, 142 cars were stolen. Only 21 encroachments, or only 14.8%, were discovered. A month later, the results are even worse – 13.1% disclosure rate, and in March it drops to 11.3%. The bottom was hit in April with a success rate of only 7.1%.

Recently, the Ministry of the Interior and the Prosecutor’s Office conducted a large-scale action against car thieves. 45 people from Varna, Pernik and Dupnitsa were arrested. The investigators admitted that there is a channel for the export of stolen cars operating in our country, but announced that they have the will to stop it.
