Online survival game Rust is coming to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on May 21. The console version of the game is being developed by another studio and will provide a modified yet faithful experience compared to the original.

The game will also support cross-play between the Sony and Microsoft consoles, but due to the fact that the game is not exactly the same as the PC version, it will not be included in the cross-play support. The game will also receive the adjustments and changes of the Windows version, but also its ‘own experiments’.

The console version is in the hands of game studio Double Eleven. The studio has had roles in the development of Minecraft Dungeons, Prison Architect, Crackdown 3 and more. The studio has been working on this version of Rust since 2018. A roadmap of what the updates of this version will look like has yet to follow, the studio tells in a blog post about the development.

The console version of Rust was announced in 2019 and was initially due to be released in 2020, but the corona pandemic and the fact that the entire development team had to work from home as a result, the game was delayed.
