In 1950, a communist court passed the highest sentence on Czechoslovak democratic politician Milada Horáková. 70 years ago, on June 27, 1950, she was murdered. What shaped Horáková? How did she survive the prison and what kind of family did she have? Ask in the online interview of Daniel Anýž, editor of Aktuálně.cz and the author of the new book Jda, with my head held high: The Story of Milady Horáková’s family.

Hello, Mr. Anýž, what do you say to the resolution of the Prague Communists, who condemned the “Murdered by the Communists” campaign? And to their disgusting statements about Milada Horáková.

Do you have any explanation for why Milada Horáková cooperated in the interrogations? I do not mean later interrogations, where she apparently confessed to anti-state activities and spies under pressure. I mean the introductory interrogations, where she denied anything to the interests of the Czechoslovak Republic, but at the same time stated dates, names, places of meetings, mediators to pass on messages, etc. she could not have any illusions about communist security. So she must have known that any mention of the name would put the person in serious danger, regardless of whether the activity was innocent or not.
