Online boom: Telekom closes many of its shops and cuts jobs

Deutsche Telekom has confirmed its plans in July 2019, according to which one in five of its shops should be closed and around 800 jobs cut. The background is the strong change in market and customer behavior due to digitization and online boom. “The customer frequency in stationary retail and the number of attractive consumer focus areas is generally declining, at the same time online sales are increasing”the company said on January 28, 2020.

  2. Deutsche Rentenversicherung Bund, Berlin

Despite the reduction in Telekom shops, 86 percent of customers would be able to reach a Telekom shop in less than 20 kilometers in the future. It is planned to close 99 of the currently 504 Telekom Shops by the end of 2021. Operational termination notices are excluded. Jobs should be reduced to severance payments, partial retirement or switching to other jobs in the group.

In sales, the structures and processes of increasing fiber-optic marketing would be adjusted in order to make offers in the promoted fixed network expansion more efficient. The online platform will also be further optimized in Internet sales, and the interaction between stationary and digital channels will be improved. Customers can make many tariff changes and new bookings in online chat at Telekom, saving time.
