Dominika Cibulková and her husband Michal Navara were preferentially vaccinated with a vaccine against covid-19. The tennis player now resists massive criticism by thinking that she is only filling a place in the queue.
If Dominika Cibulková had been vaccinated preferentially as part of an official vaccination campaign against vocid-19, that would be fine.
But she had the first dose given secretly, overtaking the most vulnerable groups: doctors and paramedics, crisis infrastructure workers or the elderly.
The 31-year-old tennis player is now facing massive criticism on social networks, as she is far from an indication for vaccination in favor of the group. He is currently on parental leave with his seven-month-old son Jakub.
According to the Slovak Denník N, Cibulková and her husband were vaccinated in one of the three workplaces of the vaccination center under the University Hospital in Bratislava. The medical facility claims that a former tennis player, who is now on maternity leave, was spontaneously and unjustifiably added to the official list by one of the centre’s employees.
After everything came to light, Cibulková apologized on her Instagram. Allegedly, during a visit to her acquaintance in the hospital, she only asked at what time she could come up with the vaccination.
“If I suspected that I was making a serious mistake and that I just didn’t fill in the blank, I wouldn’t take that opportunity at all. I’m very sorry for the situation, in relation to all the people waiting for the vaccine,” she apologized.
According to her, the case can have a positive effect. “I will be happy if this whole unfortunate event has a positive effect in convincing as many people as possible of the need for vaccination,” she added.
Prime Minister Igor Matovic described the way in which Cibulkova was vaccinated as an unnecessary failure of the vaccination center. He said on the social network that it will require strict measures to prevent similar incidents for the next time.
