The smartphone world is full of manufacturers, and alternatives, different in design, user experience, and of course, prices. The market is not just Samsung and Apple, as we also have other major manufacturers, always bringing new things to the shelves, year after year, as is the case with OnePlus, Oppo and Xiaomi.
However, according to a new study by the University of Edinburgh, and Trinity College Dublin, many of these Chinese smartphones have some hidden things.
OnePlus, Oppo and Xiaomi caught in the Spyware meshes
Therefore, according to this study, the mobile phones of the three Chinese manufacturers mentioned above, come to our hands with several pre-installed apps, which are not always well intentioned. In fact, the problem is not even that they are installed, but the permissions that are active by default. Permissions, which in any installation, must be given by the user and never by the manufacturer.
Among other things, these apps are capable of gathering various types of information about the user and sending it to unknown third parties. We are talking about device location, SMS text messages and other chat apps, call history, contact numbers, contact emails, etc…
Obviously, this is nothing new for anyone, as it has been happening for many good years. However, it remains impressive that even with all the focus on security, the Android ecosystem remains so weak and in the hands of manufacturers.
What do you do when you buy a new cell phone? Are you going to see what is installed by default and delete the apps, even if they are part of the system? Is it a good way to maintain the security level? Share your opinion with us in the comments box below.
