It has already been suggested, now it is official: OnePlus is switching to ColorOS from Oppo in China with the OnePlus 9 and OnePlus 9 Pro. So they parted ways with HydrogenOS and there will also be an update for the 8 series, with which users can switch. However, here the change is voluntary.
OnePlus and Oppo belong to BBK (like Vivo and Realme), but there you have to finance the development of several user interfaces for Android. And with OnePlus there are two interfaces, because in China you use HyrdrogenOS and in other countries it’s OxygenOS (both are similar).

OnePlus: OxygenOS remains (for now)
So far, this change only applies to China, but to be honest, it might not be such a bad idea if Oppo and OnePlus join forces here. Both offer a passable update policy, but not a good one either. If one were to unite the teams and reduce costs, this area could be further optimized.
At the moment, however, there are no indications that OnePlus will switch to ColorOS with us, the 9 series will come onto the market as usual with OxygenOS. But I wouldn’t be sure if it will stay that way. Let’s see what the OnePlus 9T or OnePlus 10 looks like and what OnePlus will say about it tomorrow.
