OnePlus extends the flagship update period – on a par with Samsung

When OnePlus announced that they had become a complete Oppo brand, the company said that streamlining will lead to better updates. It was not taken off the air, as OnePlus has now extended the update period for the flagships.

The top models from the OnePlus 8, including the T and R models, will receive “three major Android updates” and four years of security updates. The period applies from the time of launch. This means that OnePlus is on a par with Samsung, in which case for the flagships and the current scope.

OnePlus Nord and later phones in the series will receive two major Android updates and three years of security updates. The budget models in the Nord N series only get a new Android version and two years of security updates.

The company has been criticized for how it has handled updates in recent years. New Android versions have been delayed for some models and the company occasionally lags behind with security updates. OnePlus does not write how often the security updates will be sent out, but the extended scope is a welcome step in the right direction.
