When it comes to Android updates, OnePlus smartphones have been supported so far… differently. However, the company decided to extend the update support and – above all – to start playing open cards with customers. Now you will find out before buying how many new versions of the system you can count on.
OnePlus: 3 major Android updates only for newer flagships
The support period depends on the series and price segment. It looks like:
- flagship series (from OnePlus 8 upwards) – 3 major Android updates and 4 years of security patches;
- OnePlus Nord and Nord CE – 2 major Android updates and 3 years of security patches;
- OnePlus Nord N series – 1 major Android update and 3 years of security patches.
Against the background of market standards, these are solid declarations, but not necessarily the best. For comparison Samsung is promising 3 major Android updates even for some smartphones from the Galaxy A series, costing less than the OnePlus Nord. In turn 4-year security updates Koreans offer users almost all models, including the budget Galaxy A10 and M10.
What about users of earlier models? OnePlus ensures phones older than OnePlus 8 will get 2 major Android updates and 3 years of security patches.
