OnePlus Ace 2 Pro: Powerful Performance, Disappointing Cameras and Price

OnePlus has a new flagship model on offer
The manufacturer bet all the cards on high performance, on the contrary, they cheated the cameras a bit
The phone is offered in China for nice money

OnePlus launched its most equipped smartphone to date in China today. In recent days, the manufacturer has gradually revealed its greatest strengths in trailers, but we can only get a complete picture today. Welcome OnePlus Ace 2.

OnePlus Ace 2 Pro: familiar design, weaker cameras

The presented novelty seems to have been overlooked by the January model OnePlus 11 – both phones share the same design and partly also the dimensions, Ace 2 Pro is only half a millimeter thicker and 5 grams heavier, which is partly to blame for the rejuvenated guts. Unfortunately, the manufacturer forgot about water resistance, at least the one declared on paper.

Before we get to the guts, let’s take a look at the outside of the phone. Its front is occupied by a curved 6.74″ OLED panel with a high resolution of 1240 × 2772 pixels, an adaptive refresh rate of up to 120 Hz and a maximum brightness of 1600 nits. The display covers 100 percent of the DCI-P3 color gamut and does not lack support for the Always On function. It also has a built-in fingerprint reader, and in the hole at the top in the middle we can find a 16MP selfie camera with an aperture of f/2.4.

The camera on the back, like the OnePlus 11, fit into a raised circular module, which, however, lacks the Hasselblad brand logo. Unfortunately, the camera is also poor in terms of hardware, the telephoto lens has been removed from the equipment, which has been replaced by a relatively useless macro camera. In the module we can find the following cameras:

50 Mpx main (Sony IMX890) with optical stabilization and f/1.8 aperture 8 Mpx wide-angle (Sony IMX355) with 120° angle of view and f/2.2 aperture 2 Mpx macro camera (Omnivision OV02B10) with f/2.4 aperture

Powerful chipset with unique cooling

If the OnePlus Ace 2 Pro loses points in terms of camera, it’s a top performer in terms of performance. Under the hood of the phone, the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset is ticking, supplemented by a brand new three-dimensional Tiangong cooling system built from components used in aviation and space.

The cooler contains a huge evaporation chamber with an area of 9,140 mm2, which is supposed to offer up to 4x higher equivalent thermal conductivity than ordinary chambers. In addition, the system contains several layers of graphite and thermal gel, which are superconducting materials used to dissipate heat more quickly. Although the OnePlus Ace 2 Pro is not typically a gaming smartphone, it fulfills its function without losing its touch.

The high performance is also helped by the operating memory, which will (among other things) also be available in a record capacity of 24 GB. This is a fast LPDDR5X type memory, the UFS 4.0 type storage will also be fast and can be configured up to a capacity of 1 TB. This is the final memory – although the phone has a dual slot, it can only accommodate two nano SIM cards.

In terms of wireless connectivity, the phone cannot be faulted, there is no shortage of 5G, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.3 or NFC. 15 different metal elements inside the device take care of flawless signal reception. The only physical port is USB-C used to charge the 5000mAh battery. OnePlus deployed a new generation of SuperVOOC technology, which operates with a power of up to 150 watts – with an adequate adapter, the phone can be charged from 0 to 100 percent in just 17 minutes.

Thanks to a special chip for power management, the battery should not suffer too much even with this performance and should pay off with a long service life. The more widespread USB Power Delivery standard with a maximum output of 45 watts is also supported, but wireless charging is unfortunately missing. The operating system is Android 13 wrapped in the ColorOS 3.1 superstructure.

Price and availability

The OnePlus Ace 2 Pro will go on sale first in China, where it will be available from next Wednesday, August 23. It will be available in green and gray for the following prices:

The availability of the OnePlus Ace 2 Pro in the global market is not expected, at least not with this name. However, the predecessor of this model went out into the world under the name OnePlus 10T, so it is possible that the new product will arrive in Europe later as the OnePlus 11T.
