The new flagship of the Chinese manufacturer is a success across the board. As pleasant to watch as it is to use and finally powerful in photos. Getting started and advice.
Let’s not go four ways: OnePlus hits hard with its new device. The OnePlus 9 Pro, which will be available at the end of March and that Free noon was able to try for ten days, clearly brings the Chinese manufacturer into a new dimension, alongside Samsung and Apple.
Offered from € 919, it remains below the symbolic € 1,000 bar but moves away from what OnePlus offered in its infancy, good smartphones at affordable prices. Here, we are faced with a splendid phone, 5G compatible, intended for a financially well-off audience who wants to indulge themselves with a premium high-tech product.
The designs
Design has always been one of the strengths of OnePlus. With this 9 Pro, the manufacturer goes even further as the aesthetics are neat. A real gem that we enjoy handling so much, which exudes quality. The finishes are perfect and the weight, around 190 g, very contained.
The back is in glass, with a gradient effect making it go from very shiny downwards to more matt in the upper part. Putting a plastic shell on it would be a crime! Better to be careful than to spoil the pleasure, even if the whole takes a lot of fingerprints.
The generously sized photo pad is housed at the top left and creates a slight imbalance when the phone is laid flat. As is the case with an iPhone 12 for example or a Galaxy S21.
On the sides, the edges are rounded and hug thecurved screen. The borders are reduced to their strict minimum and only a small punch in the left corner for the front camera disturbs the purity of the lines. A fast and reliable fingerprint sensor is housed under the panel. The phone can also be unlocked using facial recognition, an option that is disabled by default.
The USB connector is type C and obviously the jack is missing, which has become the standard in the high end today. This design praise shouldn’t make us forget that the phone is (very) large. We like it or not, but in any case we get used to it quickly.
The screen
One of the strengths of the device: a gigantic panel of 6.7 inch Amoled. With its QHD + definition (3168 x 1440 pixels, to be activated in the settings), its refresh rate of 120 Hz, its impeccable contrast and brightness, this screen ticks all the boxes and puts it in full view.

Several default settings are available, ranging from very flashy to the most natural. Without doubt one of the most beautiful images on the market, which reinforces the premium side of the product.
Power and interface
The OnePlus 9 Pro is a “monster”. It embeds a Snapdragon 888, the most powerful of Qualcomm’s processors. Supported by 12 GB of RAM and a storage capacity of 256 GB (in the version loaned by the manufacturer), no game can resist him, even the most greedy like Genshin Impact. Obviously with such technical characteristics, all applications open in the blink of an eye and run smoothly and responsively.
The interface is still just as efficient. Oxygen OS is in the opinion of the specialized press one of the best Android overlays. Nothing very innovative but everything is well thought out, efficient, without unnecessary “fuss”, and fully customizable. The gestures are natural and very quickly become obvious.
The camera
The camera has always been the Achilles heel of OnePlus. This year, the manufacturer has joined forces for the software part with the Swedish specialist in optics Hasselblad. On the “physical” level, the 9 Pro has no less than four modules! One main, one wide-angle, one telephoto, one monochrome.

Without forcing or rummaging through the settings, this set allows you to take high quality shots in virtually any light condition. And does wonders in portrait mode. Perhaps it is not at the level of an iPhone 12 Pro Max, but the gap with the previous models is enormous. And the vast majority of even demanding users should be delighted with the results. A big step forward for OnePlus.
Autonomy and recharging
With such a screen, such a processor and a 4,500 mAh battery, one could fear the worst. This is not the case: the autonomy is correct. Have a good day, without playing video games. And in the event that you run out of fuel, the user can count on the (very) fast charging: barely 20 minutes to go from 10% to 90% in wired! And 45 minutes to reach 100% using the wireless charger. A feat which currently has little or no equal.
In conclusion
Luxurious in its presentation, with a stunning screen, photo features finally up to the task and a high-performance fast charging system … this OnePlus 9 Pro is a success across the board. Marketed for a little less than € 1,000, it is obviously an expensive smartphone but it is hard to fault him. If your finances allow and you are looking for an Android phone, this model deserves your full attention.
