OnePlus 12 debuts in Poland, and I have already taken photos with it. A good evolution at a very good price

OnePlus 12 will be available in Poland in two colors

Recently, OnePlus has been juggling a bit with the colors of its smartphones sold on the European market. This time we will also miss one of the variants, because in Poland we cannot buy the silver model, but we will get a very attractive green and classic black one. Both are matte, fit well in the hand, and their workmanship cannot be faulted. There is also water resistance, confirmed by compliance with the IP65 standard, and a slider to mute sounds.

The camera island looks very interesting, but it raises some doubts. We have camera lens frames that protrude above the housing surface, and the whole thing is surrounded by a large ring covered with a large glass pane. It looks impressive, but will it still be practical after a long time of use? What if something leaks and dust gets inside? What if the outer glass gets scratched? Will this cause any reflections in the photos? I have many questions, but few answers. For now, the only certain thing is that it is a visually interesting solution.

As a supplement, let us add that the screen is protected by Gorilla Glass Victus 2, Gorilla Glass lenses, the smartphone frame is aluminum, and the entire structure weighs 220 grams.

The OnePlus 12 screen breaks brightness records and can be operated with wet hands. Specification? Flagship

The OnePlus 12 display is an LTPO AMOLED panel with a diagonal of 6.82 inches and a resolution of 1440 x 3168 pixels. We have compliance with all standards, including Dolby Vision, HDR10+ and let’s not forget about 120 Hz image refreshment. The manufacturer ensures that the maximum brightness of the panel reaches 1,600 nits, but in automatic mode, it is supposed to shoot up to 4,500 nits at peak. It seems that for the second year in a row, smartphone manufacturers are going to strive for the brightest screens possible.

The screen is slightly curved

What can I say about the quality of the displayed panel? After a short time spent with the smartphone, the fly does not settle. The image is of very good quality and the brightness actually stands out. Even in snowy conditions and strong sunlight, the display remained nice and legible.

OnePlus argues that the screen has a special coating that allows you to operate it with wet hands or when the display itself is wet. You can actually feel the difference from a typical smartphone screen. It may not be perfect, but I had no problems operating the screen after covering it with water, so the feature actually works.

OnePlus 12 is a real flagship. Its driving force is the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 system and two memory variants will be available in Poland – 12/256 and 16/512 GB. This time, without distinguishing between faster and slower, as was the case last year. In both variants it will be UFS 4.0 built-in memory.

In terms of connectivity, we have practically everything here – NFC, 5G, Wi-Fi 7 ready (as soon as the function is commercially available, OnePlus 12 will support it), Bluetooth 5.2, there is also an in-screen fingerprint reader and Dual SIM.

OnePlus 12 is powered by a battery with a capacity of up to 5,400 mAh and supports fast wired charging with a power of 100 W, wireless charging with a power of 50 W and allows reverse wireless charging with a power of 10 W.

OnePlus 12 has an interesting set of cameras and there is no step backwards here

OnePlus 12 got a new set of cameras and here the company has made a lot of progress. The main camera has a resolution of 50 Mpix. This is the new Sony Lytia 808 matrix in size 1/1.43″, with a wide-angle lens of 23 mm equivalent and optical image stabilization. Next we have a 64 Mpix camera with a periscope telephoto lens (70 mm, f/2.0), also with optical image stabilization. It gives us a 3x zoom compared to the main camera, and digitally we can zoom in up to 120 times. The ultra-wide-angle camera has the same parameters as in OnePlus 11 – 48 Mpix, 14mm, f/2.2 and there is a Sony IMX581 matrix.

The camera was supervised by the Hasselblad brand, so the available options include dedicated portrait modes imitating the images of various brand lenses and a wide-angle XPAN mode. Let’s add to this the recording of videos in 8K at 24 frames per second and 4K at 60 frames and a front camera with a resolution of 32 Mpix.

After the world premiere of OnePlus 12, I was not satisfied with the reduced focal length of the main camera. 30 mm in OnePlus 11 gave us a slightly narrower angle of view, but it made photography easier and I was counting on the fact that in OnePlus 12 the frame would narrow with the focal length to the more classic 35 mm, but it was widened. Fortunately, not entirely, because, similarly to the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max, we can digitally change the focal length to 23, 28 or 35 mm.

Without further ado, this is what photos taken with OnePlus 12 look like:

However, this is not the end, because the manufacturer boasts of higher quality photos in RAW mode. Files in the DNG format weigh a lot, about 30 MB for one photo, which gives hope for flexibility when editing them. Which of course I checked. Let’s start with the effects:

As for the impressions of the editing – I’m impressed! The plasticity of the image, the tonal range and the scope in which you can modify image parameters are at the level, and I will say this with full awareness, of at least a mid-class compact camera. I wonder what it will look like in night photos, because in more difficult conditions, trying to brighten the shadows results in a lot of noise, which is typical for matrices of this size. Apart from this issue, it looks much better than I expected and in the world of smartphones I only know similar vividness of RAW photos from Samsung Galaxy S23/S24 Ultra and Xiaomi 13 Pro.

OnePlus 12 costs much less than I expected

OnePlus 11 in the 8/128 GB version cost PLN 4,199, and in the 16/256 GB version PLN 4,599. OnePlus 12 does not have a worse specification, it has been improved, improved and equipped in many places and I was sure that five at the front in price is a natural thing. But no…

OnePlus 12 in the 12/256 GB version was priced at PLN 4,499, and the 16/5120 version at PLN 4,999 and it is a great price in relation to the specifications and I can partly risk that also the possibilities that I had the opportunity to check briefly.

The devices will go on sale in Poland on January 23, and as part of the premiere offer, by purchasing OnePlus 12 we can get a refund of PLN 400. Additionally, the manufacturer will also provide us with OnePlus Buds Pro 2 headphones as a gift.
