OneOdio OpenRock X Review: Full and Detailed Review

Nowadays, we all know the headphones designed for everyday use such as the Huawei FreeBuds 6i or others. Some brands, such as OneOdiohave chosen to offer devices adapted to sportsmenthis is the case with the model tested today, the new OpenRock X.

I do indeed consider that their use is more suitable for sporting activities, such as outdoor running for example, particularly due to their design. ergonomic which comes out of the how. The flexible branch with which the earphones are equipped allows them to be held around your ears. Let’s see together what these are worth.

Design et packaging

I admit that I am happy to test headphones that are a little out of the ordinary, because in fact, their design does not have much in common with the average earphones that we are used to seeing in the street or elsewhere for that matter.

The OneOdio OpenRock X feature a similar design to the Shure Aonic 215 True Wireless Gen 2, which are also earphones designed for athletes. The model received at the editorial office sports a black color, although some details contrast with it, as we will see.

Before I begin, I would like to emphasize that the packaging is very well thought out, and it was a pleasure to unbox the OpenRock X for this reason. Inside, however, it was more cardboard than anything else. I only made out the earphones with their case, as well as a charging cable and some instructions.

So I can start describing the aesthetics of these “Open-Ear” headphones. This term refers to the fact that the earbuds do not penetrate your ears, but rather sit on them in reality, avoiding any risk of discomfort or possible pain, as I had felt with the SoundPeats Air 4 Lite.

The speakers are identical, and feature an oval shape. The front face features the inscription “OpenRock”, recalling the model of the product. The lower side has a small button, which allows you to perform different actions depending on what you have selected on the dedicated application, which I will talk about later.

Next to the button in question, OneOdio has decided to add a small microphone for each device, allowing you to be heard during a phone call. Apart from these elements, there is not much to add.

The surface that sticks to your ears has the magnetic charging ports on one side and the sound output on the other. This has been positioned so that it sits right in your ears, which looks great, as I’ll explain a little later.

Finally, it seems good to talk about the holding branches. They are also black and have been equipped with a silicone material, very soft in contact with the skin. The end is wider for a better grip, suitable for any ear shape.

You should also know that the end glued to the transducers is equipped with a rotation system that allows the earpieces to be pivoted by a small margin. All this in order to be able to position the sound outputs in front of the orifice of your ear, depending on how you have put the OneOdio OpenRock X on your ears.

The case itself is also well thought out and quite original. It is similar to the one we found on the Creative Outlier Pro. That is to say, it is a rectangular container, to access the headphones, simply press on the upper surface, which will activate a click and the case will open.

OneOdio OpenRock X Sound Quality

You might think that the fact that the earbuds don’t fit directly into our ears could cause a loss in sound quality. However, I didn’t find that to be the case. The brand designed the OneOdio OpenRock X so that the sound outputs are perfectly positioned.

Indeed, the listening sensation is the same as for some in-ear devices, except that here, there is no risk of discomfort. Inevitably, the sound is much less muffled, given the space available for the transducers. When the transducer has more air, its performance will be much better and this allows a much wider sound output.

The sound profile is perfectly balanced, the bass does not take over, which is appreciable. It will always be possible to increase them via the application. They bring dynamism to the music listened to, without stifling the other frequencies.

As for the volume flow offered by the OpenRock X, it is also very good. I could not turn the volume up to the maximum without losing my hearing. I am exaggerating a bit, it is true, but what I mean is that you will not be forced to turn the volume up too much to be able to enjoy your music.

Ease of use

When you buy headphones dedicated to your sports activities, no matter what, you want comfort to be there, to almost forget what you have on your ears. Unlike in-ear headphones, the OneOdio OpenRock X do not fit into your ears, which allows for better comfort from the start.

The transducers rest on the ears, without exerting too much pressure, which is appreciable, and which will make you sweat less at the same time. As I said in the design part of this test, the material of the branches is very soft in contact with the skin, which means that I practically did not feel them.

Additionally, the OpenRock X are lightweight, which allows for a smooth attachment to your ears. Personally, mine are quite small, I was a bit worried about this, but since they can be tightened, I ultimately had no problems.

OneOdio OpenRock X Features

Unlike the Nothing Ear, the OneOdio OpenRock X do not offer an ANC (active noise reduction) mode, nor a transparency mode for that matter, which is unfortunate. But this is made logical by the shape that they sport.

This does not mean that they are completely devoid of interesting features. Indeed, by going to the “OpenRock” application, we discover some that I will therefore present. First, a maximum volume limiter is made available to us, so as not to exceed a certain level.

The OneOdio OpenRock X are also equipped with the spatial sound function, allowing you to give a perception of listening coming from the room you are in. It’s quite successful, although I’m not a fan of this mode.

Finally, the packaging of the headphones informs us that they have a multipoint connection mode. This means that it is possible to connect several devices via Bluetooth simultaneously. However, I am not aware of the maximum number of devices supported.

Battery life of the OneOdio OpenRock X

Battery life is something I have to admit I was quite surprised about with the OneOdio OpenRock X. After an hour of listening to them, they didn’t lose 1% of battery, which is quite impressive. This definitely ensures smooth workouts when it comes to music.

The expected battery life of the earbuds has not been communicated, although I can assure you that they will last the day without any problems. So I have nothing to say, except that it will not be necessary to recharge the OpenRock X case every day, which is a luxury.

Application OpenRock

It is now time to introduce you to the application dedicated to OneOdio OpenRock X. It is called “OpenRock”, and is available for download on iPhone and Android completely free of charge.

Once downloaded, you won’t even be asked to create an account, as is the case with most other software of this type. After long-pressing the pairing button on the box, the app will automatically detect the earbuds.

You will then be able to start enjoying the options offered by OneOdio. First, the battery of the headphones and the case will be presented to you, allowing you to see the time remaining before recharging.

Gestes OpenRock 2

I found the traditional sound equalizer, which offers several listening presets depending on your preferences. In particular, there is a “Rock” mode, a “Boom” mode, “Relax”, as well as the possibility of personalizing the frequencies yourself.

Of course, the features I talked about earlier are also available, such as the maximum volume limiter or spatial sound. A prolonged wearing reminder is also available, in order to activate an audio command informing you that you have been wearing the headphones for so many minutes.

Finally, it will be possible to manage pressure commands with your fingers, to assign them specific actions. Another very practical feature offers to find your headphones in case of loss, thanks to a geolocation system.

OneOdio OpenRock X : Avis

The OneOdio OpenRock X are headphones designed for athletes, and it shows. Whether it’s design, comfort or battery life, OneOdio has thought of everything to make your sessions go as well as possible.

The sound performance is there, and the application that accompanies the OpenRock allows customization of the settings, to your tastes, which is appreciable. Being a sportsman myself, I hesitate to opt for these earbuds!
