The Archdiocese of Los Angeles, the largest in the United States, announced the realization of the OneLife pro-life event next Saturday, January 23, this time virtually due to the coronavirus pandemic.
The event, which will start at 12:00 (local time), can be followed through Facebook and the website https://onelifela.org/.
This year’s theme is “The Joy of Life” and seeks to unite “communities and inspire positive actions that promote the beauty and dignity of all human life from conception to natural death.”
Archbishop José Gomez, Archbishop of Los Angeles and president of the US Episcopate, affirms that “now more than ever we are reminded that our lives are a gift from God that must be treasured and respected. We share our joy in life through thousands of small works of mercy performed during the year for our neighbor in need.
In a note from the Archdiocese of Los Angeles, the Prelate affirms that “we defend the dignity of all human life and we reject attacks against the defenseless and the marginalized. OneLife LA builds a culture that cares and shares the joy of life when our world needs it most ”.
The funds raised in this edition of OneLife will be used to help the Harvest Home, “a work that helps homeless pregnant women and their children by giving them accommodation, assistance and programs that assist them in their maternity.”
Traditionally the event was held at Los Angeles Historic Park in the center of the city with thousands of people participating, but now everything will be virtual.
Participating speakers include Christopher Duffley, a 19-year-old musician and podcast maker. Born prematurely, this young man went blind and was later diagnosed with autism.
Lianna Rebolledo, another of the speakers, is president and founder of Loving Life, a platform that helps women victims of violence. A survivor of sexual violence at age 12, she is one of the most recognized pro-life leaders in Latin America and the United States.
Jess Echeverry is an advocate for the rights of women and families. She will share her testimony on having gone through her parents’ divorce, alcoholism, and how she has overcome physical and mental abuse.
The celebration will conclude with the Mass of “Requiem for the unborn”, presided over by Bishop Gomez and which will be broadcast on Facebook. The celebration will light 175 candles to remember the 175 babies who die daily from abortion in Southern California.
On Friday 22 at 7:00 pm the vocations office of the Archdiocese of Los Angeles also invites you to pray before the Blessed Sacrament. The Holy Hour will be offered for the dignity of all human life.
