In just two weeks, a documentary about the singer, called simply Karel, will enter cinemas. Its director Olga Malířová Špátová filmed alongside the singer for one year.
On the other hand, the Tribute to Karel Gott concerts planned for December will not take place this year. Gott Ivan’s widow announced two weeks ago that due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the concerts would not take place until next year in June.
Karel Gott died on October 1, 2019, shortly before midnight at home in the circle of his family. “With the deepest sorrow in my heart, I announce that yesterday, shortly before midnight, after a severe and long illness, my beloved husband Karel Gott left us. He left at home, in a quiet sleep, in his family circle,” Gott’s wife Ivana announced a year ago.
Shortly before, the singer admitted that he suffers from acute leukemia and is being treated on an outpatient basis at the General University Hospital in Prague. He also struggled with health problems in 2016.
Fans said goodbye to the singer on the day he celebrated his 81st birthday. Watch the TV Nova report:
Karel Gott has won a number of awards during his long career. He became a legend in the Golden Nightingale poll, which he won a total of forty-two times, and since 1963 he has missed the victory only eight times. In addition, he became the absolute winner of the Týtý spectator poll six times and was the first to stand in the Hall of Fame of the Academy of Czech Popular Music. However, his collection of awards is much broader and he would publish a separate book.
Gott, as one of the few Czech artists, broke through abroad. He enjoys great popularity, especially in Germany, which is why he sang a number of songs in German. Die Biene Maja (May Bee) has been a number one hit for many decades. But they also know him behind a big puddle, because in the 1960s he performed in Las Vegas for seven months.
Karel Gott’s best-selling foreign album was the Karel Gott LP, sung in Russian, which has sold 4.5 million copies since 1977.
Check out Karel Gott’s latest interview for TV Nova:

The only woman who could bring Gott to the altar was Ivana Gottová. She is currently raising their two daughters, Charlotte and Nella Sofia.
Last year, fans at Prague’s Žofín said goodbye to Karel Gott. Almost 50,000 of them came in a single day. They spent an average of two hours in line. But it got to everyone. The big hall was closed by the organizers just before midnight.
