One year of Brexit: companies feel problems

As a result of the Brexit, Lower Saxony companies have problems posting their employees to Great Britain. The companies lack security on this point, criticized the general manager of the Lower Saxony Chamber of Commerce and Industry (IHKN), Maike Bielfeldt, on Wednesday evening in an interim assessment of the kingdom’s exit from the EU. Employees had to struggle with problems again and again when entering the country. The fishing industry, the automotive industry, mechanical engineering and the food industry also felt the consequences of Brexit.

The fishing industry in Germany alone has suffered a loss of 20 million euros in sales since Brexit, said the Secretary General of the German Fisheries Association, Peter Breckling. Fewer ships would therefore be used in the future.

As a result of the Brexit, the British economy collapsed much more than the European one, said the EU foreign policy expert and former Prime Minister of Lower Saxony, David McAllister. Nevertheless, German federal states, including Lower Saxony, have traditionally had close ties to parts of the kingdom. There is a lot of exchange and that will continue to be the case. McAllister cited the Lower Saxony-Scottish university exchange as an example.
