A fan who racially attacked Real Madrid striker Vinicius Jr and Villarreal player Samuel Chukwueze in two matches in Mallorca last year was found guilty and sentenced to prison, Real Madrid said on Thursday.
The aggressor, who was not named in the La Liga club’s statement, received a 12-month prison sentence, which has been subject to the accused “apologizing and showing his regret with a letter addressed to Vinicius Júnior , participate in a program of equal treatment and non-discrimination”.
He was also banned from stadiums for three years.
“This is the third criminal conviction handed down in recent months for racist insults received by Real Madrid players,” the club said in a statement. “Real Madrid… will continue working to protect the values of our club and eradicate any racist behavior in the world of football and sport.”
The abuses against Vinicius and Chukwueze took place at the Son Moix stadium in Palma, capital of Mallorca, two weeks apart.
In the match between Mallorca and Real Madrid, fans could be heard in a video calling the Brazilian player a monkey. Vinicius Jr has denounced racism in football matches in Spain.
Meanwhile, a minor who racially insulted Real Madrid midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni in April this year has also apologized and shown his regret, according to the club. The young man has been banned from entering stadiums for a year, will participate in socio-educational activities proposed by the prosecutor’s office and will pay a fine.
