Ex-soccer star Michael Ballack remembered his son Emilio Ballack, who died a year ago, on Instagram with a picture and emotional words.

“My lovely angel, I remember your laughter, your happiness and your joy… I remember your light… with much love and much emotion I will pray today for your soul to rest in peace,” wrote the 45-year-old on Friday afternoon in English to a photo of his son.

“I hold you close to my heart.” He also prays for Emilio’s brothers. Thousands of Instagram users responded to the post within hours. Former companions also left messages.

Former England internationals John Terry and Ashley Cole, with whom Ballack had played together for several years at Chelsea, expressed their sympathy with several heart emojis.

Emilio Ballack died in quad bike accident in Portugal

After Emilio’s fatal accident on August 5, 2021, Michael Ballack stopped being active on the social media platform for around nine months and avoided public appearances. Only on Emilio’s birthday – it would have been his 19th – did the former professional from Bayer 04 Leverkusen and FC Bayern Munich post a post to remember Emilio.

Emilio Ballack died aged 18 after a quad bike accident in Portugal. Ballack and his former wife, Simony Mecky-Ballack, have two sons together – Louis and Jordi.
