On the Maas in Maastricht, rescue services have taken two people on board from an overturned boat out of the water. One victim was rushed to hospital. The second person on board had died when he was found near Itteren. It is probably a father and son.
Around 1 p.m., the emergency services received a report that a person had been seen in the water at the Sluisdijk, close to the weir in Borgharen, on the north side of Maastricht.
The two were in a small boat that had sailed through the weir. Boats and diving crews were used in the rescue. A police helicopter and a helicopter from the German emergency service ADAC also joined the search.
