With 163 new CoV infections, twice as many were reported on Wednesday as on Tuesday. More and more infections can now be traced back to people returning from their travels. They already make up a third of new infections.

In two out of three cases, the origin of a CoV infection can currently be determined, says Ursula Karnthaler from the Vienna Health Authority (MA 15). “The majority can be traced back to people who traveled themselves or who had contact with those returning from the trip.” More than 100 Austrians have already tested positive after a Croatian festival; in Vienna there are so far five.
Test on return
The second most common source of infection is your own household, followed by leisure activities and then night gastronomy. Since last week, only those who have been vaccinated and who have tested PCR are allowed in clubs and bars. There are enough controls, they say. The personal responsibility of the visitors and operators is required, so Karnthaler. “You can’t put a police officer next to every visitor to see if everything is being observed.”
Many new infections from vacationers
Those returning from vacation are responsible for most of the new CoV infections in the city. But guests in night gastronomy are also often affected.

MA 15 appeals to those returning to travel to be tested immediately after their return. “Especially, of course, those who are not vaccinated. But those who have been vaccinated also have a low risk of being infected and passing on the virus. So everyone who comes back should take part in ‘everything gurgles’ to be sure that you don’t infect those around you, ”says Karnthaler.
No larger clusters
According to the health service, there are currently no larger clusters in the city. However, there is not as much testing as it was a few weeks ago. In the past two months, the number of rapid antigen tests has almost halved. PCR tests are also declining, which the city attributes mainly to the vacation time and the increasing number of vaccinations. In order to further increase the vaccination rate, further vaccination boxes are to be set up in the districts soon.
