Theater directors find it difficult to accept that hundreds of people are allowed in one Brabant theater and only thirty in another theater. Theater Markant in Uden, just like the other theaters in the Brabant-Noord region, can only let in thirty people. Director Jan Wouda finds that incomprehensible.
Soon after the outbreak of the corona crisis, the Uden theater decided to make all kinds of adjustments and investments still safe 450 visitors to let in.

“We are now seven months on and we are not getting any progress. We are still not in the official testing phase. So until then we stick to five feet and 150 people can enter ”, Wouda explains.

120 fewer men
But then the decision of the security region came on Wednesday and now there is thirty visitors of max. “That is really annoying. No exception is made for locations of regional importance. I really can’t explain that a theater like Carré in Amsterdam is allowed to receive more visitors under ‘code serious’, but we don’t “, he sighs.

Some theaters also have an exemption closer to home. Exceptions are made in the regions of South-East and Central and West Brabant. Rob van Steen, director of Theaters Tilburg, is happy with ‘his’ exemption. “We are happy with every guest we can let in and every artist we can perform. Tonight’s shows can continue and we’re pretty full until October 20th. As long as it can stay that way, I am happy. ”

Pop stage 013 in Tilburg also has an exemption:

Jan Wouda from Markant in Uden would have liked to sign up for it. Thirty visitors per performance is completely untenable, according to the director. “With 150 people it works with hanging and strangling. It doesn’t make you any wiser economically, but at least you are open and play a role as a meeting point in the region. But back to thirty? Then you have to close. Because how can you put on a performance for thirty people? I have to pay catering staff and technicians. And for example Guido Weijers and Jeroen van de Boom, who are scheduled for next week, really cannot perform for thirty people. ”

Despite the exemption in his region, Van Steen of the Tilburg theater is not yet jumping for joy. “I remain aware of the limitations and keep in mind that the decision can always change. In other cities this exemption does not apply, which is also sad for them. But health is of course above all. So it could just turn around. ”
