“Not PPLN and not a gay group,” said Syahril.
In the future, the Ministry of Health and the Central Java Provincial Health Office will conduct laboratory tests and PCR to determine whether the patient is infected with monkeypox or other viruses.
What is Monkeypox Disease?
Quoted from the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), monkeypox is a rare disease caused by infection with the monkeypox virus. The monkeypox virus is part of the same family of viruses as the variola virus, the virus that causes smallpox.
The symptoms of monkeypox are similar to the symptoms of ordinary smallpox but are milder, rare cases of monkeypox that are fatal. In addition, this disease is not related to chickenpox.
Symptoms and incubation period of monkeypox
In a written statement from the Indonesian Doctors Association (IDI) received by detikcom some time ago, it was stated that the incubation period for monkeypox lasted from 5 to 21 days with an average of 6 to 16 days.
After passing the incubation phase, the patient will experience clinical symptoms in the form of:
- High fever
- Great headache
- Lymphadenopathy (enlarged lymph nodes)
- Back pain
- Muscle ache
- Prominent weakness
Within 1-3 days after the fever appears, the patient will experience patches on the skin. These symptoms will appear on the face and spread to other parts of the body, such as the hands and soles of the feet. Over time, these patches will turn into maculopapular skin lesions, vesicles, and pustules, which in 10 days will turn into scabs.
How to transmit monkey pox
dr Adityo Susilo, SpPD, KPTI, FINASIM from the Indonesian Association of Internal Medicine Specialists (PAPDI) as well as the central administrator of PETRI (Indonesian Association of Tropical Medicine and Infectious Diseases), explained a number of ways of transmitting the monkeypox virus to humans. According to him, the monkeypox virus is transmitted through:
- Human contact with blood
- Body fluids
- Lesions on the mucosa
- Infected animal skin
- Mother to fetus via placenta
“As for human-to-human transmission, it is suspected that it can occur as a result of close contact with an infected patient directly (direct close contact) through exposure to infected respiratory secretions, direct contact with patient skin lesions, or contact with objects that have been contaminated by the virus. patient’s body fluids,” he explained in a written statement received by detikcom, Wednesday (27/7).
“In addition, vertical transmission from mother to fetus through the placenta (congenital Monkeypox infection) is also possible,” continued Dr. Adityo.
The Origin of Monkey Pox
Monkeypox was originally discovered in 1958 when two disease outbreaks, such as smallpox, occurred in a colony of monkeys kept for research. Despite being named “monkeypox”, the source of the disease is still unknown. However, African rodents and non-human primates (such as monkeys) may harbor the virus and infect humans.
The first human case of monkeypox was recorded in 1970. Prior to the 2022 outbreak, monkeypox had been reported in people in several central and west African countries. Nearly all cases of monkeypox in people outside Africa are linked to travelers to countries experiencing the outbreak or via imported animals.
