The end of an extremely successful and important project for young people in Burgas was reported today.
With a closing press conference, the Youth International Center presented the results of the work done, as well as the impact on the youth community in Burgas and the region.
The event was attended by Mihail Nenov – deputy. mayor for education, health care, social activities and youth policies, Maria Salabasheva – director of the OP “International Youth Cultural Center”, Stanislav Mzhezgulov – project manager, Maria Burulyanova – project coordinator, Katya Delchilova – technical secretary.
“I want to congratulate the entire team working on the project. He faced many difficulties during the covid pandemic and rising prices which hindered the implementation. However, they found solutions to all the obstacles that arose, so that we not only have the building of the Youth International Center, but also in a short time turn it into a lively center of meaningful youth activities that help in the development of young people in Burgas, the constituent settlements and the whole area. The youth center has been filled with a lot of content and it is already attractive and we recognize a place for young people so that it is a natural place for their ideas and projects. said Deputy Mayor Nenov.
Stanislav Mzhezgulov added that perhaps the most visible aspect is the construction of the building of the International Youth Center in Meden Rudnik, but the most important thing is the formation of a team in it.
“He went through special training and at the completion of the building he was ready to enter and implement activities that were laid out in the project. The team is made up of youth workers, educational mediators and psychologists. They managed to implement a number of activities, not only on the ground here, but also at the national level. The project was realized with the partnership of the Municipality of Reykjavík, with whom a lot of experience and practices were exchanged” he said.
The building itself, which was opened at the end of last year, has accommodation, event rooms and a lot of areas suitable for young people.
It is open all week and all young people are welcome. The entire project is worth BGN 6.3 million, and the co-financing by the Burgas Municipality is BGN 1.6 million.
It took 42 months for its implementation, during which time twice as many activities were implemented as were originally planned.
“The team. It is what defines us. A building is a building, but the people are its real valuable asset. Thanks to everyone’s work, because the difficulties were not few. I hope that in the future we will have a large field of work and we will rely on the support of the Municipality of Burgas and the network of Youth Centers in the country, because good things happen when we are behind” shared Maria Salabasheva, director of the OP “International Youth Cultural Center”.
The project coordinator, Maria Burulyanova, explained that when she started preparing the project proposal 5 years ago, no one could have guessed what challenges everyone involved in it would face.
“The difficulties were not few and there is a need to thank the people involved in the realization. The management team also deserves congratulations. I thank the program operator for the extremely good coordination over the years, as well as the Municipality of Reykjavík. I’m sure this won’t be our last project together.” she said.
Katya Delchilova added that the foundations have already been laid and it is important to move forward with youth policies.
“I believe that they will attract more young people who will find meaning in participating in the organized events. We must invest in the education and upbringing of young people in order to have a more sustainable society” she shared.
Among the highlights of the events that were held by the International Youth Center are: non-formal education in schools, information about human rights, ethnic tolerance, conducting trainings for successful completion of higher education, motivational seminars, holding debates and civic activity, educational quizzes and seminars, creative workshops, eco-initiatives, creation of volleyball sports clubs, billiards and running, youth exchanges, cultural performance evenings, the Vocation: Health initiative and much more.
